I usually get way more into the red carpet part of the Oscars than the awards, but last year was different. Last year, I probably saw three movies all year, but one of them was The King’s Speech, and I LOVED that movie. I stayed up waiting for my boy Colin Firth to win Best Actor, and he did it!

This year was different. I’ve seen quite a lot of movies, mostly thanks to Matt’s job. His boss happens to be a member of the Academy.

Good but I was in a funk during it and was too in love with the book to try and love the movie, though they all did a very good job

Good for math and baseball lovers and also a pretty good movie

Meryl makes this. The movie itself isn’t very good because it’s all about Margaret Thatcher getting over her husband’s death and how she isn’t the same and barely covers her time as prime minister, but Meryl does a great job. I mean, when doesn’t she?This is witty and funny and wonderful. Best writing. Plus, Jason Segel is awesome. George Clooney is pretty convincing that he would be a distant dad but I think that’s how he would be in real life too. The emotions are very real as you can only imagine how angry you would be if your wife won’t wake up from a coma when you just found out she has been having an affair.

This was a fantastic movie. Very interesting storyline making you want to reread The Great Gatsby.
I give this an A-/B+. It was pretty emotional at times and sweet. Joey the horse did a fantastic job. Plus, the main actor is cute. Also, nice and convenient that everyone in WWI spoke English.

I was very impressed with this young actor in his first movie. As far as the movie, it was engaging and not so much about 9/11.

I loved this movie. Michelle Williams was incredible. I really thought she was Marilyn.

This was really funny but at times, it was also too much for me. just couldn’t get over the part where they were crossing the street sick. Ewwww. But I did love the van full of puppies!

So after over 40 years of marriage and the passing of the mother, the dad comes out. Very different part from Captain Von Trapp. It was an under the radar movie that was actually pretty light and the dog was great.

Eh? This was ok and the mermaids were weird.

I loved loved this movie. I sobbed and sobbed. Based on a true story too.

Don’t watch this movie in the dark when you’re tired. Besides that, this fantastic film went back to a different time. You had to rely on the facial expressions of the actors and they did a great job.

The only Best Picture movie I haven’t seen is Hugo and frankly, I found the trailer to not be that enticing, but I guess I was wrong since it has the most nominations.

We shall see if my films win on Sunday!

Pretty Pretty Princess

My friend Buzzy (that’s her maiden name that we still use as her first name because why wouldn’t you with a name like that) started Buzzy Craftery a few years ago. What’s a craftery? Well, it’s a crafting factory: event planning, graphic design, sewing, everything. Buzzy has no limits. Hire her. She’s good.

Buzzy was in charge of coordinating the My Princess Dance, a daddy daughter Valentine’s dance, and Whitney and I helped along with some of our other friends for the night.
There were cupcakes galore. Plus a castle!

And even a dad in a kilt!
But best of all there were tons of dads with their daughters. They let them have as many strawberries dipped in the chocolate fountain as they wanted. The only time they pulled out their phones was to take pictures of their sweet daughters.

They danced with them all night!It made me want to be a princess and be there with my dad.

Until reality hit and I realized I had to carry the trash to the dumpster in the rain when I forgot my rain jacket and am still getting over a cold. But at least I was doing it with my best friend!

If you don’t know the rest of the words to the title, I’m sorry you haven’t had the privilege of living in the best state, Texas. Or you must have missed Sheldon Cooper singing it.

My cousin was married about a month ago in Houston, so the whole family went!

In no other state would

Goodwill change their logo to the state flag (We also found a Chi straightener with the Texas flag. Ballin.)

or for it to be normal for a man to wear a hat and boots at Cracker Barrel. Seba couldn’t believe it, but that’s Texas.

Once the plane touched down, Matt, Laura, and I headed straight to Shipley’s. Priorities.
Then we headed to lunch to get our share of faijtas. There weren’t enough meals in the trip to get my filling of all the best Texas food, but that’s not for lack of trying.

A few of us stayed with my cousin from the other side of the family, Carrie and her husband Brian. Super nice of them to have us!
It wouldn’t be a vacation with my family without going to a museum.

We headed the place where I lost my first tooth, the Space Center.
I only have one picture of the rehearsal dinner and few of the wedding because it is hard to coordinate pictures with lots of family, and I wish I did because Matt was James Brown on the dance floor. Maybe later!

I finally had an excuse and the courage to wear a fascinator! All my cousins together again!!

I didn’t brave Target for the Missoni craze mainly because I didn’t know about it in advance, and even if I had, multi-colored stripes can only be worn so many times.

Since I was up early on Sunday, I decided to go to Target for the Jason Wu collection. I first heard about Jason Wu when he designed Michelle Obama’s inauguration gown.
I got there 15 minutes before it opened and to my surprise, only had 10 people ahead of me in line. Everyone was nice too, so I knew I wouldn’t get trampled on!

I ~~ran~~ quickly walked to this lace clutch and got the last one. Oh, how I love lace! I really think they only had about three of each accessory and each size in the clothes.
I browsed the clothes and by the time I got there two minutes later, stuff was already picked through.

I grabbed a bunch of dresses because you just never know, but the sizes were running big. Maybe better for girls with how should I say it, have more up top. The collection was simple with mostly A-lines, very wearable to work. I ended up with these two pieces
It was the most times I’ve ever heard “oh yeah, with a belt” in a dressing room.

First off, let’s just say that baby girl clothes are so much cuter than baby boy clothes. Boys have cute stuff like airplanes, but with girls, there are ribbons and ruffles and everything that is pink and precious.

I didn’t take pictures when I was sewing baby Hannah’s dress,
but I remembered to do it for baby Gavin’s jumper.
I did the zipper all by myself this time!

I had accepted going to wedding showers, but now I’ve started attending baby showers too. Crazy! With this one, I helped throw it for my friend Angie.
I love showers. Perfect place to try out new recipes, perfect your small talk, and an excuse to sew the gift.

Thanks to my mom for help with the cooking.

Cake Pops

I’m not really a cake person. I’d rather have ice cream or better yet pie or brownies, but at Katie’s baby shower a few weeks ago, I had a cake pop and I was surprised. They were delicious. Almost like brownies with fudge.

I first heard about cake pops from Bakerella and they looked hard to make because she makes them into all different holiday designs and animals, but I kept it simple and they were pretty easy, just a little time consuming.

I used this recipe from the world wide web.

It felt weird breaking up a perfectly good cake but you mix the cake with frosting into little balls.

and it was messy They go in the fridge overnight
and then you dip lollipop sticks into candy melts and let that sit
Then the hard part is dipping the whole thing into a candy melt and hoping that it stays on the lollipop stick. I had a few failures. My lovely assistant Whitney helped pour the sprinkles on the cake pops.

Hello, Goodbye

It’s been a while since I posted, but since I live with 50% of the loyal readers of this blog, I don’t feel so bad. Plus, going to sleep sounds like a far better idea than blogging right now.

I’ll update on all of my recent activities of baking, sewing, planning a baby shower, catching up on the DVR, and going to a family wedding later.

Last night I went to Sips n Strokes for the first time with some friends from Junior League. It was super fun! Good to try something new and I enjoyed the let your paint dry breaks so we could talk and enjoy a nice adult beverage. It’s nice to try out a hobby and know that I didn’t miss my calling because there is no calling.
Also, today we received some wonderful news. My aunt (my mom’s sister) who has already battled cancer once, just greatly reduced the size of ALL five of her brain tumors. What a rock star! I am so excited! ALL thanks to God for fighting this battle with us. Praise to Him!! I know many, many families aren’t as lucky, so we are so blessed to have our Aunt Cathy healthy.

and baby will make three!

I made pretty, smart, funny, but mostly pretty friends in college.
and now they’re doing adult things like getting married, buying houses, and having babies, so next time we go to the beach together like this, there will be more of us!

Katie’s shower for baby Hannah was this past weekend. You know when you have two great friends and they’re perfect for each other and then when they have a baby, you think wow, that is going to be one fun kid. Well, that is Katie and Joey.

The hosts did a lovely job.

I mean, the detail everywhere. They were good.

Jenna bought baby books and had everyone write a note to the baby. I’m so stealing this idea! So thoughtful.

Plus, I tried cake pops. I’m not a huge cake fan, but cake pops were delicious. These tasted like a fudge brownie. Yum-o!
The baby shower was a good excuse to see everyone. Plus, baby girl clothes are super cute and I got to sew baby Hannah this dress!

Can’t wait to ~~steal her for the weekend~~ babysit and see her wear it!
